Otley
West Yorkshire
The market town of Otley lies alongside the river Wharfe and is overlooked by the 1,000ft high ridge called The Chevin. It remains a working market town today with its own auction mart and weekly markets held in the cobbled market square. Crosses in the church date back to the 8th century and there was once an Archbishop’s Palace in the town. It was also the birthplace of internationally renowned furniture maker Thomas Chippendale who was born in 1718. It is a very lively town with many community events and makes an excellent base; as it is both close to Leeds and the Yorkshire Dales.
