Holmfirth
West Yorkshire
Holmfirth grew as a market town for the hill farmers on the moors that surround the town that lies in the bottom of the Holme Valley. It still retains its auction mart. It's fame is due to the long running BBC sitcom "Last of the Summer Wine" (1973-2010) that still continues to draw visitors to find its most popular locations such as "Sid's Cafe". Today, a popular folk festival, many independent shops and the Picturedrome venue, that draws in major touring artists, make it busy all year round.
