Your Personal Town Guide
West Yorkshire
Halifax is the administrative town for Calderdale and includes the towns of Hebden Bridge and Todmorden. It became a major textile centre with weavers bringing their cloth to sell at the Piece Hall – a building on two floors with 315 rooms set around a quadrangle. The wealth of the town also shows up in the fine Victorian buildings such as the Town Hall and Market. Today it is home to the children’s educational centre Eureka! and the huge Dean Clough carpet mill has been converted into a business, arts and visitor centre.
