Your Personal Town Guide
West Yorkshire
Batley lies along the Spen Valley and is made up of a number of areas including Soothill, Batley Carr, Hanging Heaton and Upper Batley hence many of its attractions are to be found slightly away from the actual town centre. It became known as a 'shoddy' town as textile waste came here to be recycled. Today you'll find the mills "recycled" into upmarket shopping complexes. At the centre of the town is a lovingly restored town square around which is the town hall, library and a Methodist chapel.
