Sheffield
South Yorkshire
Sheffield is surrounded by seven hills that look down on England’s fourth largest city. It’s a modern city as much of its past was wiped out in bombing raids during WWII. The city was targeted for its steel and engineering industries that were spread along the lower Don valley. Steel making still takes place in the city but the valley, stretching from the city centre, has been transformed into sporting venues, a huge arena and the vast Meadowhall shopping centre. The city centre is compact and easy to get around. Visitors will be surprised by the quality of the museums, parks and general European feel – enhanced by having a modern tram system..
