Middleham
North Yorkshire
The size of the village belies its importance: Kings and Queens of England have lived and been imprisoned in the castle here! Today it is known as the “Newmarket of the North” as it is a centre for the breeding and training of racehorses. Visitors to Wensleydale travel through it on the main road that cuts across the Market Place surrounded by solidly built Georgian properties.
