Masham
North Yorkshire
Masham is located on the River Ure between the Nidderdale area of outstanding natural beauty and the Yorkshire Dales. At the centre of the town is a large market square surrounded by Georgian buildings. It was here that sales of up to 80,000 sheep were held from the 13th century up until around 100 years ago. This is recreated annually in September with the Sheep Fair. Unusually the town has two breweries: Theakston’s and Black Sheep, both of which have visitor centres.
