Knaresborough
North Yorkshire
The castle ruins stand above a deep gorge on the river Nidd and was once a Royal home. You’ll need a full day to explore Knaresborough – the shops are centred around the market place. Paths lead to the Parish church with ancient tombs and down to the waterside where you can hire a rowing boat. Across the river lies a petrifying well that turns garments into stone! Mother Shipton, a prophetess, lived in a cave there – another cave, that of St Robert, lies about a mile downstream.
