The biggest resort on the Holderness (East Yorkshire) coast is Bridlington – here you’ll find the traditional amusements lining the promenade. There is a wide sandy beach stretching for miles. From the harbour boats take trippers further up the coast to Flamborough Head or Scarborough. But the town is of two halves: about a mile inland is Old Bridlington with its narrow twisting streets set close to the Priory that was founded in 1133. An interesting feature here is the priory’s gatehouse – the Bayle – that now houses a local history museum.
